Last week we began using our new online booking system for registration and payment for swimming sessions. Coincidentally, we have recently observed a spike in attendance on Monday and Wednesday nights prompting the committee and coaches to consider the swimming safety of members.
Twelve swimmers per lane is typically the maximum capacity to support a safe and enjoyable session in long course season and seven during short course season. With our lane allocation at Sydney University limited to three lanes, this means that the safe session capacity is 36 swimmers for long course and 40 for short course (commencing after the long course championships later this month).
As a result of the increased attendance at our sessions, for the safety and enjoyment of members, we are implementing the following:
all sessions will have an attendance cap, identified for each session via the new online booking system. This means that all swimmers must register prior to their intended session (subject to capacity). Only swimmers with a booking (which can be made right up until the session starts, again subject to capacity) will be permitted to train at any given session,
from Tuesday 7 May two lanes have been booked at Cook & Phillip Pool from 7:30pm to 8:30pm to provide an additional training option. This will be a trial throughout the month of May with the option to extend should it prove popular,
a request has been made to Sydney University to increase our lane allocation but for the time being they are giving priority to their own squad.
It is hoped that by introducing swimming training on Tuesday night that numbers will spread more evenly across the week. We do recognise that limiting numbers at each session is not popular with everyone however the safety of our members is paramount and these changes will also ensure that our coaches are able to provide better support during your training sessions.
Please note that Queer Camp, our Tuesday night land training sessions, will be continuing throughout May, too - so you now have the choice between swimming or sweating it out in Sydney Park! Contact Susie for registration and pricing details.
